Dr. Andy Souzis, Technical Team Consultant

The Coherent/II-VI Foundation is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Andy Souzis to our Technical Team. Dr. Andy Souzis received his Ph.D. in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1990 and began his career as a National Research Council Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the U.S. Army Research Lab in Ft. Monmouth, NJ.  That was followed in 1993 at IBM in East Fishkill, NY as a Senior Materials Scientist in support of silicon materials analysis for one of the world’s first 300mm silicon device fabs.

From 1994 to 2001 he worked at Litton-Airtron/Northrop-Grumman in Morris Plains, NJ responsible for GaAs crystal growth R&D program management and customer technical support.  He was a key contributor in the development of the industry’s first 150 mm GaAs crystal growth manufacturing line.

In 2001, he was part of a small SiC team purchased by II-VI from Northrop-Grumman. In his 25-year career at II-VI/Coherent, culminating as Senior Director of Strategy and Strategic Marketing, his responsibilities included R&D and technology program management as well as market, business, and large-scale manufacturing development. In these various roles he was a significant contributor, enabling the division to grow from a technology start-up to a global leader in the SiC substrate market.

He has managed over $60M in US Government programs focused on SiC substrate development, through agencies including Title III, AFRL, DARPA and MDA.  He holds 6 SiC crystal growth patents and has authored/co-authored over 100 technical papers and presentations in scientific journals and international conference proceedings.
