Introducing our newest Board Member, Mr. Steve Rummel

The Coherent/II-VI Foundation is proud to announce the addition of a new director to our Board of Directors. By a unanimous vote, Mr. Steve Rummel was appointed to the Coherent/II-VI Foundation Board of Directors.

Steve Rummel joined Coherent Corporation in 1988 and has been the Senior Vice President of the Engineered Materials Group since 2019.  His business units represent a broad range of materials and products serving the semiconductor, precision manufacturing, life science, and communications markets.  Steve’s Group is known for driving innovation in materials and materials transformation technology for a wide range of applications, including advanced semiconductor manufacturing and packaging, thermal management, and laser processing. 

Over the span of Mr. Rummel’s time with the company, he has held leadership roles including Vice President of the IR Optics Division (2016-2019), Vice President of Product Technology and Quality (2014-2016), Director of Product Technology and Quality for IR Optics (2009-2014), and Quality Manager (1999-2009). Between 1988 and 1999, Mr. Rummel held various engineering, quality, and product technology roles in the IR Optics Division.

Mr. Rummel graduated from Grove City College with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and holds an M.S. degree in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He serves on the Grove City College STEM Dean’s Advisory Council.  He has authored and presented papers on materials for optical applications in the infrared and near infrared.  His work with advanced materials spans his 37 years with Coherent.
